DongYan Wedding Cake In International NewsThe 12-foot wedding cake of showbiz royalty Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera caught the attention of foreign press as it was featured both in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The grand wedding ceremony of the couple was a big buzz here and was the trending topic in social media. Dingdong arrived at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao, Quezon City riding his Ducati motorcycle while Marian arrived in style on Dingdong's restored Mercedes Benz.
But it was their 12-foot, five-tiered cake that caught the attention of the international media. The cake, which was brought and carried by 10 people to the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, where the reception was held, was made by Pinky Yee of Goldilocks, which is one of Dingdong's endorsements.
Apparently, the cake also has 3D mapping, which was especially requested by Dingdong, and took one month to make. Reports said it was worth P7 million.
On ABC News' "Good Morning America," the cake was cited as the "world's largest cake." The current holder for that title in the Guinness World Records weighed six tons or 15,032 pounds. It was made by the chefs of Mohegan Sun Hotel and Casino in Connecticut for the New Englad bridal showcase in 2004.
The news site also mentioned that the event was trending both in the Philippines and worldwide. The fans, who call themselves "The DongYanatics," used the hashtags #DongYanWedding and #DM123014.
In the United Kingdom, the "Mirror" headlined their article "Is this the world's biggest wedding cake?" It said that it could be the biggest cake made ever for a wedding since the current Guinness title holder was made for showcase.
Dingdong's and Marian's wedding have been making headlines for the past weeks because of how grand and lavish it was. The couple was married at the Immaculate Conception in Cubao with their reception held at the MOA Arena.
