Kris Aquino Talks About The Barretto Family Row

Kris Aquino has voiced her opinion about the current feud among members of the Barretto family.

In her show KrisTV on Wednesday, Aquino discussed how she knows Claudine and Gretchen Barretto, the two sisters in the center of the current controversy.

Both sisters are currently in a word war. Claudine is said to be blocking her niece Julia’s entry to show business as she grapples with the fact that her own career is struggling. Julia is the daughter of Marjorie Barretto and Dennis Padilla.

Aquino said that based the Claudine she knows, it seems far-fetched that the actress is trying to ruin Julia’s career.

Aquino worked with Claudine in 2006 in the movie Sukob.

“When we were doing 'Sukob', although that was way back 2006, noong nagshu-shooting kami at nagpi-pictorial si Julia at si Claudia, sumasama talaga kay Claudine eh,” Aquino told co-host John Lapus.

“So alam ko na super close sila while those children were growing up,” she said.

“So ang hirap paniwalaan na ang lahat ng ito ay nag-simula doon sa pangba-bash kay Julia. Parang naa-accuse na nanggagaling kay Claudine. Of course, ang tagal-tagal na noon pero sa nakita ko ay mahal na mahal niya ang bata,” she added.

On Gretchen, who she worked with on a commercial, Aquino said that it seems out of character for the Barretto to be talking the way she is talking about her sister.

“Kaya ako nagtataka kasi Gretchen prays the rosary, every time, talagang two to three times a day, she goes to Baclaran. May devotion. Nagsisimba, parang very solid ang relationship with God,” Aquino said.

“Ako naman feeling ko kung madasalin kang tao, yung ina-accuse sa iyo na may sisiraan kang kapatid, hindi bagay doon sa nakita ko, for myself na napakamadasalin ngayon. I'm sure since madasalin siya ino-honor niya ang Ten Commandments. Hindi ba the fourth commandment is 'honor your mother and your father?” Aquino, who is also currently embroiled in another controversy with her former husband James Yap, said.

Aquino also commented on how the issue must be affecting the Barretto clan.

She said she feels pity for the whole Barretto family especially the family members who are not showbiz personalities but have otherwise gotten involved in the spat.

“For example, si Daddy Mike. Ano kaya ang pakiramdam niya na lahat ng ito ay naglabasan? If you think also, what prompted the brother (Joaquin) to speak and to make it public? Kasi pwede na lang tumawag siya sa nanay niya na 'mom, please stop na.'” Aquino said.

“Pero the fact na mayroong lumabas, hindi natin alam kung ano ang dynamics nila at pinagdadaanan ng pamilya,” she added.

Aquino also tried to rationalize the statement given by Inday Barretto, mother of the Barretto sisters, in a recent article by Ricky Lo for the Philippine Star. In the statement, she called Gretchen “evil” and a “liar”. Gretchen did not comment on the statement, a fact Aquino said she appreciate as not commenting is sometimes the only thing someone in that position can do to avoid more trouble.

Aquino, who is the younger sister of current Philippine President Benigno Aquino III, said that maybe Mommy Inday gave the statement she gave Lo because she could not help but defend a child she sees as helpless.

The host actress said that she was shocked when she heard about the statement. “Sobrang tapang at sobrang madetalye,” she described the statement.

However, she added “Pero tayong lahat medyo nagulat na in helping one child parang itinakwil ang isang anak.”

Aquino also said that it is sad to see the quarrel between the sisters because their mommy Inday is already old. She should just be enjoying life with her grandchildren, Aquino said.

The actress also said that the current issue is a testament to the public having an “endless fascination” with the Barretto clan.
