Comelec Proclaims Vilma Santos-Recto As Three-Term Batangas GovernorVilma Santos-Recto posted a landslide victory against her rivals, Marcos Mandanas Sr. and Pradexes Bustamante, for the gubernatorial race in Batangas province.
This is the Star For All Seasons' third and final term. There is no report yet if she plans to seek a higher position in 2016.
Santos-Recto run under President Benigno Aquino 3rd's Liberal Party.
She got a total of 661,395 votes against Mandanas' 41,796 and Bustamante's 4,292. Comelec proclaimed her the winner at 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday.
Santos-Recto's running mate, Mark Leviste, also won as vice governor. He had 597,722 votes while his rival, Rommel Arguelles, got 72,670 votes.
The Star For All Seasons' political career started in 1998 when she won as mayor of Lipa, Batangas. She was the first woman to win the post.
In 2007 and 2010, she won as governor of the province.
Meanwhile, her once on-screen partner Christopher de Leon lost in the congressional race for the second district of Batangas province.
His rivals Raneo Abu and Godofredo Berberabe got 80,723 and 78,924 votes, respectively. De Leon received 29,085 votes.
