Lovi Poe Decides To Renew Contract With GMA-7After many months of speculations that she would jump into another TV network, Lovi Poe has finally decided to stick to her mother studio. The young actress was originally scheduled to sign her contract renewal last week, but it was postponed because some of the executives were not available and because Poe was also set to help her half-sister Grace Poe get into the last stretch of campaigning for the May 13 elections.
According to sources, the long awaited contract signing would finally push through this week. It took many months for the negotiations to have its conclusion. There was a slight confusion in the past weeks because Poe was rumored to be negotiating with TV5 but she was seen visible in some programs of GMA-7 rival network ABS-CBN.
Poe is managed by Leo Dominguez, who is also the manager of Ogie Alcasid, another GMA-7 talent who has long been rumored to be transferring to TV5 due to much higher talent fee offers. Some observers believe that Poe’s renewal of contract is also a sign that Alcasid would also not push through with original plans to jump stations by the end of his contract on June 30.
But according to a report by columnist Ronnie Carrasco III, there was actually no offer from TV5 for the Kapuso actress. A reliable GMA-7 insider allegedly claimed that the network did not make any counter offer to convince Poe to stay with the network. The same insider supposedly said that Poe is not one of the prized talents of the network, hence, GMA-7 does not mind losing her to another network anytime.
According to reports, Poe’s camp was using the transfer speculation to negotiate for a higher talent fee. That informer disclosed that it has become a popular practice not just in GMA-7 for talents to start speculations about possible network transfer just so they could ask for a significant raise in their talent fees.
According to some people privy about GMA-7 affairs, the network is out to make sure that its few prized ‘gems’ like Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, and Richard Gutierrez would remain with the network no matter what it takes. The same people said the network could not care less about the other talents who are not in their priority list.
According to sources, Poe is not yet part of that elusive list. Hence, the network did not exert enough effort to keep her. According to earlier reports, it was Poe who decided to stick with the network, which groomed her as an actress.
Poe started her TV career in GMA-7 in 2005. Her first major assignment was the drama series ‘Bakekang,’ which had Sunshine Dizon in the lead role. She played the role of Crystal, the twin sister or Charming (played by Yasmine Kurdi). In the story, Bakekang, the mom of the twins, favored Crystal more than her sister because she (Crystal) was born more beautiful than Charming.
