Lovi Poe Finally Renews Her Contract With GMA-7After many weeks of unending speculations, Lovi Poe has decided to stay with GMA-7, where she started her TV and acting career in 2005. The 24-year-old drama actress inked a three-year guaranteed contract with her mother studio in May 17. The new deal would enable her to appear in as many TV shows as she possibly could.
GMA-7 is known for offering and providing guaranteed contracts for their prized talents. The guaranteed provision means the contract star would be able to receive regular amount of compensation even if he/she does not work on any assignment.
The contract signing event was held at the boardroom of GMA-7 Network Center. It was attended by network chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon, vice president for Entertainment TV Lilybeth G. Rasonable, AVP for Alternative Productions Gigi Santiago-Lara, and Leo Dominguez, Poe’s talent manager.
In an interview after the signing, Atty. Gozon said he is pleased to sign Poe anew. He reiterated that Poe is among the network’s most talented actresses. In the end, he assured that the station has many plans that would include Poe.
The actress’ previous contract with the network expired last March. It was just in time for the ending of her afternoon TV drama ‘Yesterday’s Bride,’ where she was paired with her rumored suitor Rocco Nacino. Since then, there were speculations that her camp has been entering negotiations with other networks, particularly TV5.
Poe now denies having gotten into such discussions. She said that she only took a month-long leave to take some rest and to freshen up before she renews her contract. She also added that she used that time to finish all her lined up film projects.
In April, her Regal Entertainment movie ‘The Bride and the Lover’ was shown in theaters. The promotions prompted her to appear in several ABS-CBN shows, which further fanned speculations that she was sending feelers to rival stations.
The contract signing was originally set last week. However, it was postponed because some of the network’s executives were unavailable that time and also because Poe was set to help in the last stretch of the campaign trail of her half sister Grace Poe, who ran as a senatorial candidate and won in the May 13 elections.
In an interview, Poe expressed her happiness to stay with the network. She said she was grateful to be back home. The actress added that she would always intend to stay because GMA-7 was the network that gave her the big break in the industry.
Poe was supposed to be part of Richard Gutierrez’s latest primetime drama series ‘Love and Lies.’ But because of her reluctance to immediately renew her contract, she was replaced by another actress, Bela Padilla. Poe did not reveal her next project with the station.
The contract signing may play significance in speculations that another Kapuso talent, Ogie Alcasid, would leave the network soon. Poe and Alcasid share the same talent manager. Like Poe, Alcasid is reportedly eyeing TV5 as his new home network. His contract with GMA-7 is set to expire on June 30.
