Barbie Forteza Stars In "Anna Karenina" As ContrabidaBarbie Forteza will play the role of a contrabida in GMA-7's remake of "Anna Karenina."
This is the first time the actress will play the role of a contrabida in a teleserye. She was more used to playing goody-two shoes roles.
Back in the 1990s, GMA-7 also produced a teleserye of the same name. It was starred in by the hottest teen stars of that generation--Antoinette Taus as Anna, Sunshine Cruz as Karen and Kim Delos Santos as Nina.
Tanya Garcia was eventually introduced as the real Anna Karenina.
In the remake of the popular teleserye, Forteza (playing the role of Karen) will be joined by Krystal Reyes as Anna and Joyce Ching as Nina.
But Forteza defended her contrabida role. She said "Karen" is not a typical contrabida. What the network meant by being a contrabida was that Forteza has to act uneducated and "babaeng bakla."
She said she cannot believe that she will now be playing a different role than the one she was used to playing.
"Hindi nga ako makapaniwala nang sinabi sa akin na ako si Karen. Pero masaya ako, kasi unang-una—for a change."
"Kasi, as much as possible, ayokong hintayin ko pang magsawa yung mga manonood sa akin. Na lagi na lang akong umiiyak, lagi na lang ako talunan."
This time, she wanted to show a different side of her, Forteza said. With the role of Karen, it will be more challenging for the actress.
It will take her out of her comfort zone, she said.
She also said she is confident they will all be doing a good job for the teleserye because they are being directed by veteran actress Gina Alajar.
Since Forteza is also friends with Reyes and Ching, she said it will be more comfortable for her to work with them.
Their leading men are Derrick Monasterio for Forteza, Hiro Magalona for Ching and Julian Trono for Reyes. Maureen Larrazabal will play the role of Forteza's mother.
This will be the third time Forteza is sharing the screen with Monasterio. They were also on-screen partners on "Luna Blanca," Forteza's last teleserye with GMA before "Anna Karenina."
The teleserye is set to be shown just right after "24 Oras" on GMA-7's primetime block.
Other than her new teleserye, Forteza is also excited to launch her latest album under GMA and MCA Music.
She's happy because she was finally given a chance to do what she has always wanted to do--record a song and have her won album.
However, she said she's not hoping to have a gold or platinum record for her album. It's enough for her that her home studio trusted her enough.
“Pero, never ko namang pinangarap na magkaroon ng ganyang record award. Actually, okay na sa akin na meron akong album."
It was a "dream come true" for her, Forteza said.
