Amalia Fuentes Quits From ABS-CBN TeleseryeThe much anticipated reunion on-screen between former local movie queens Amalia Fuentes and Susan Roces would not push through. This is after Fuentes quit from the upcoming TV drama series ‘Muling Buksan ang Puso.’ This news may disappoint numerous fans who have been very excited to finally see the two together on screen again.
Fuentes decided to resign from the show after completing her first taping day. In an initial interview with selected movie press, she simply cited distinct creative differences as her main reason for quitting the much talked about teleserye. According to sources, the first taping day for the show has been very stringent and difficult for the actress.
The 72-year-old movie queen thinks she may not be able to live up to very long hours of taping, which in her case took as long as 24 hours on the first day. Fuentes asserted that working for that long on the set could eventually be detrimental to her health. Fuentes shot most of her scenes in a rural site in San Juan, Batangas.
In the talked about teleserye, Fuentes would have depicted a poor woman who is the antagonist in the complicated story. Her role was in contrast to the role to be played by Roces, who would be a rich matron in the show. ‘Muling Buksan and Puso’ also stars Julia Montes, Enrique Gil, Cherie Gil, Dante Rivero, and Enchong Dee. Rivero was supposed to play the role of the man torn between Fuentes and Roces. The drama series would be under the joint direction of Nuel Crisostomo Naval and Manny Palo.
Despite her decision to quit the show, Fuentes expressed her gratitude towards ABS-CBN. She said he is thankful that the network took good care of her especially during her first day of filming. Fans are also thankful that the station has created much buzz about the reunion project, which gathered interest from many people in the industry.
The project could have revived the rivalry between the two major actresses. Fuentes and Roces’ last project was the 1968 movie ‘Cover Girls.’ In the motion picture, the two had an acting showdown, which drew controversy especially when their fans started to have a clash.
It is unclear whether ABS-CBN has accepted Fuentes’ resignation or whether it would make necessary adjustments to convince her to stay and resume working. For quite some time, many veteran actresses have been complaining about the major networks’ working environment these days, especially when they have to endure very long hours filming, which usually takes more than 24 hours non-stop.
The teleserye would have been Fuentes’ return to acting. It has been decades since the actress (also known as the Elizabeth Taylor of the Philippines) was last seen in a movie project. She has consistently declined any offer to star in any drama project for the past years. For sure, she would also be unhappy about her decision because she has been vocal in saying that she is eager to work with Roces, whom she considers as a good friend from their Sampaguita days.
