Vice Ganda Issues A Public Apology To Jessica SohoFor the second day in a row, Vice Ganda has used the noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ to air his emotional side over his recent personal issues. In May 28, he apologized to ABS-CBN bosses for not reporting to work for several days without proper leave process. Today, May 29, the gay comedian took the stage after the show’s opening number to ‘reach out’ to specific people.
Vice Ganda shed no tear but he seemed serious when he issued a public apology to Jessica Soho, who was the subject of a rude joke in one of the segments of his May 17 Araneta Coliseum concert ‘I-Vice Ganda Mo Ko.’ He immediately asked for Soho’s forgiveness after admitting that he could really have offended the latter for his joke.
Meeting with the executives
But the apology did not come simply. The comedian recounted several instances that led him to this public apology. He revealed that he met with ABS-CBN’s executives in the afternoon of May 28 to ask for their advice because he thought he was wise but he needed to seek guidance from even wiser people.
Vice Ganda said he wanted to end the growing criticisms he has been getting online because of this issue. Channel head Cory Vidanes asked him what he likes to do to address the problem. To this, Vice Ganda said he wants to apologize to Soho personally. Vidanes and the other executives in the meeting immediately agreed and said it was the right thing to do.
But the comedian said he prefers to do it sincerely through talking to Soho personally. Thus, he sought Soho’s personal number and intended to call her directly. He thinks his gesture would lack sincerity if he would do it through Twitter, through the media, or through his show.
“I don’t think so”
In his speech in the show, Vice Ganda revealed that he called Soho’s phone number this morning. He disclosed that he was able to talk directly to Soho. When she asked who the caller was, Vice Ganda said he introduced himself and immediately told the other person that he wanted to apologize for his offensive deed.
Vice Ganda recalled that Soho told him, “Pasensya na, masama ang timpla ko ngayon.” He told his audience that he understands if Soho is still not ready to forgive and forget. But Vice Ganda continued to recall that he asked if he could call Soho again later that day or in the coming days. To this, Soho allegedly said in a polite manner “I don’t think so.”
But Vice Ganda implied that he is not taking this against Soho. He repeatedly reiterated that he is apologetic and that he would not cease seeking Soho’s forgiveness. He promised that he would never ever mention Soho again in any performance he would stage from now on.
In the end, Vice Ganda also told his critics to stop bashing him online. He insisted that it was not his intention to offend anyone, even the rape victims, when he mounted that joke. By the end of that segment, he asked for a group hug from his co-hosts in the show.
