"The Voice Of The Philippines'" Battle Round Fires Up This Weekend"The Voice of the Philippines" will set fire to the stage as six pairs and two trios battle it out this weekend for the chance to be included in the show's 'Live Shows' round.
The top-rating and Twitter-trending reality singing contest will see RnB artist Thor Dulay battle it out with alternative rocker Sir Lord Lumibao. They are members of international performer Apl de Ap's team. The two will supposedly sing a popular RnB song, which Dulay is admittedly more comfortable with.
But even though the song choice is more convenient for him, Dulay said he is careful not to be overconfident because he understood Lumibao can also have the upper hand. Dulay made noise when he was the first one who made the four coaches turn their chairs and argue for the chance to work with him.
As for Lumibao, although he respects Dulay's expertise in the field, he remained unfazed and said he did everything to prepare for the battle round. He added how challenged he felt for stepping out of his comfort zone and dipping his toe into another genre.
But his experience in performing with a band will help him overcome those insecurities, and will hopefully give him a chance to defeat the crowd-favorite Dulay.
"I wouldn’t say my preparations have been enough to outdo Thor, but I can equal him and be on his level. It would be enough for everyone to say that an underdog can rival a professional."
Dulay, for his part, said he also prepared well for the battle round. Although he is familiar with the song, he still decided to give everything to perfect his performance.
As for the other duos and trios, Team Apl pitted Penelope Matanguihan, Moira dela Torre and Cara Manglapus against each other. Team Lea will choose between Japs Mendoza and Diday Garcillano, and Taw Muhammad and Kimpoy Mainit.
For Team Bamboo, Angelique Alcantara will duet with Deb Victa and Nicole Parada while Paolo Onesa will battle it out with the Cordovales duo. Team Sarah will see Yuki Ito against Kathreen Castor and Junji Arias versus Dave Lamar.
"The Voice of the Philippines" airs every Saturdays and Sundays on ABS-CBN.
