‘The Buzz’ May Be Axed Or May Undergo Reformatting This OctoberWith how intense the ratings game is, there is no permanent TV program that may last too long in Philippine TV. This is the case when popular Sunday gabfest ‘The Buzz’ gets the axe soon. According to confirmed reports from very reliable sources, the showbiz talk show would soon bid goodbye to its loyal followers.
However, in those reports, network executives are reportedly still weighing options about what to do with the show. Aside from axing it, ABS-CBN may possibly decide to simply have it reformatted. This may mean that there would be very drastic changes in the way it is presented and its format.
Part of that supposedly major revamp is the change in set of hosts. Toni Gonzaga and Charlene Gonzales are reportedly destined to vow out of Sunday afternoon TV hosting. According to reports, the two hosts are yet to hear it directly from the show’s producers but they are reportedly aware that their hosting stints are at risk, based on the flow of staff meetings of the show in the recent past weeks.
Not surprisingly, Boy Abunda should have no reason to worry. That is because no matter what happens to ‘The Buzz,’ he would stay. If the show would be reformatted or if a new show would emerge soon, it is definite that Boy would still be part of our late Sunday afternoon showbiz gabfest.
But he would not do the hosting job alone. Surprise, surprise! He would have a new set of co-hosts. And who are the lucky ladies? According to network insiders, those would be Janice de Belen and Carmina Villaroel. It is noteworthy that the two lady hosts recently lost a talk show, ‘Showbiz Inside Report,’ which was cancelled by ABS-CBN reportedly due to poor ratings.
It turns out, the network does not want to put Janice and Carmina’s hosting skills to waste. Both are seasoned hosts, after they have co-hosted their own morning show in GMA-7 ‘Sis’ for more than 7 years in the not-so-distant past. This would also mark Janice’s return to the timeslot. She used to co-host GMA-7’s ‘S Files’ many years ago. That show competed with ‘The Buzz.’
The major changes would happen soon. In fact, those would be announced and implemented this month. It is not clear what happens next to Toni and Charlene, but Toni is supposed to host the return of ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ soon after hosting the recently concluded ‘The Voice of the Philippines.’
It seems that the axe is taking its toll on ABS-CBN these days. ‘Showbiz Inside Report’ was recently cancelled despite their claims from Kantar ratings that it was beating rival show ‘Startralk,’ which according to AGB-Nielsen ratings has been undisputed No. 1 show in its timeslot.
ABS-CBN also decided to immediately end weak shows like ‘Muling Buksan and Puso’ and ‘Bukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin.’ The network simply said it is revamping its programming to boost ratings.
