GMA Network Clarified Involvement In Vhong Navarro IncidentGMA News released its official statement on its alleged relationship to model Deniece Milinette Cornejo, the woman tagged in the mauling of ABS-CBN "It's Showtime" host Vhong Navarro.
When Vhong named Deniece as the woman he visited in a condominium unit in Taguig City, where he was mauled and brutally attacked by six men, netizens immediately made her a trending topic on Twitter and Facebook.
They also found out that Deniece is supposedly the granddaughter of GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon, and that was why people criticized GMA-7 for its biased reporting on the incident involving Vhong.
It was the weekend news broadcast of GMA-7 that aired the police blotter report against Vhong, in which the TV host apparently attempted to rape Deniece. The blotter report was signed by Vhong, but it did not include Deniece's name.
The next day, Vhong recounted what happened that evening of January 22 (Wednesday) when he visited Deniece in her condominium unit. He said a certain Cedric Lee, believed to be the ex-boyfriend of actress-singer Vina Morales, pointed a gun at him and threatened to hurt his children if he fights back.
His hands and feet were tied before he was pushed to the floor and blindfolded. While at that position, several men entered Deniece's condominium unit to physically and sexually attack Vhong. They even recorded a video of him saying he raped Deniece.
The men also attempted to extort P1 million from Vhong.
When the interview was over, the trending topic on Twitter and Facebook was "GMAPhilippinesWorstNetwork because it was the one who publicized the blotter report.
Netizens also found a picture of Deniece with Atty. Gozon and GMA executive Rod Conejos. She called the two men "lolo" or grandpa.
In its statement, GMA clarified that the blotter report was also aired by other media outfits. They also said they asked for Vhong's side, as well as his manager director Chito Rono.
They also aired an interview with Vhong's lawyer, Atty. Alma Mallonga.
