ER Ejercito Says He Loves PMPC But Praises Sucaldito Amid ControversyER Ejercito has expressed his love for the Philippine Movie Press Club but also said he appreciates what Jobert Sucaldito is doing.
That’s a bit ironic, as some observe, because Sucaldito has recently blasted the PMPC for not giving the best actor award to Ejercito in the recently concluded Star Awards despite him lobbying for his client. It appears, according to Sucaldito’s claim in a Facebook post, that he was assured Ejercito would win because of his lobbying.
Sucaldito, not one to shy away from a media slugfest, said in his post that a member of the PMPC panel lobbied for Vice Ganda and paid other members of the panel to give the award to the comedian.
In an interview by ABS-CBN News, Ejercito said that he loves the PMPC as he also expressed that he was saddened by the latest controversy.
“Mahal ko ang ENPRESS, mahal ko ang PMPC, mahal ko ang lahat ng media,” Ejercito is quoted as saying. He added that his love for the entertainment press can be seen as the reason why he organizes a Christmas party for them every year.
Saying he loves the Philippine movie industry, Ejercito even added: “Mahal ko ang entertainment press. Mabuhay ang PMPC.”
Ejercito said that what is important for him is that he was nominated as Best Actor for his role in “Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill” and that actually winning the award would just have been a bonus.
In another part of the ABS-CBN News interview, Sucaldito said thanked the PMPC for giving the Best Actress award to KC Concepcion, her leading lady in the Boy Golden film. He also thanked the Star Awards organizers for giving the film the Best Production Design and Best Music and Theme Song awards to the film.
After saying this, however, the Governor of Laguna province praised Sucaldito.
Saying that he respects the opinion and good intentions of Sucaldito, he said, “Mahusay at magaling na tao si Jobert at nirerespeto ko ang kanyang opinyon na i-correct ang maling ginagawa sa industriya. Mabuhay ka Jobert Sucaldito.”
Sucaldito made waves just this week for a post he made on Facebook which detailed how he claims the PMPC betrayed him and his client.
He said that barely two weeks ago, members of the PMPC panel approached him asking whether or not he would be lobbying for Ejercito to get the Best Actor award. He said that they told him that PMPC will not be giving the award to Joel Torre for his role in the movie On The Job because there is no money for the panel if they choose to do so.
Saying that he was informed Ejercito was next in line for the award, he then lobbied for his client and “commissioned” 22 out of the 38 panel members to vote for Ejercito.
However, he was frustrated and angry after the award went to Vice Ganda at the ceremony held at the Solaire resort.
He alleged that Francis Simeon, a member of the panel, turned the tides on Ejercito. “Nagbayad siya ng pera sa mga kasamahan niya sa PMPC para manalo si Vice Ganda who is abroad. Mamatay na ang nagsisisungaling,” Sucaldito wrote.
The entertainment reporter said that the PMPC did not reveal the actual results of their voting because they control the results.
Meanwhile, Vice Ganda has said that he will not be returning the award because his conscience is clear.
In his official statement, Ejercito pointed out that he “admires” Sucaldito’s “good intention of exposing the crooked ways in the industry that need to be corrected.”
