"Meteor Garden" Trends On TwitterThe Meteor Garden fever is back. Filipinos all around the country welcomed the much-awaited re-run of the hit Taiwanese series "Meteor Garden," which was based from the manga, "Hana Yori Dango."
It has been 10 years since "Meteor Garden" was introduced by ABS-CBN to Filipino viewers. Now, they are bringing back this Asian classic in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the country's true home of Asianovelas.
On its pilot telecast last March 31 (Monday), "Meteor Garden" received a national TV rating of 16.2% compared to its two rivals from GMA-7, "Innamorata" (9.3%) and "Borrowed Wife" (9.6%). This was according to data from Kantar Media.
This Taiwanese series trended on Twitter worldwide. Five out of the top 10 worldwide trending topics were about "Meteor Garden."
Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, who played the lead star Shan Cai, showed her support for the re-airing of the series. She said: "I heard the Philippines is going to play ‘Meteor Garden’ again. Thank you for your overwhelming love and continued support. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as you loved it ten years ago. Thank you and I hope to see you again soon."
Tweets from netizens were all about reminiscing the past and remembering how they raced home from school to watch "Meteor Garden." Unlike before, Filipinos today can rave about the "gorgeous boys" of F4 namely Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan), Hua Ze Lei (Vic Zhou), Mei Zuo (Vaness Wu) and Xi Men (Ken Chu).
Netizens also talked about Dao's pineapple hairstyle and the red card. They also requested for ABS-CBN to have weekend replays.
Also, the network's newest teleserye "Moon of Desire" created a buzz last Monday after it was launched with "Meteor Garden." This new series stars JC de Vera, Ellen Adarna and Meg Imperial.
"Moon of Desire" received a TV rating of 16.6% while GMA-7's "Villa Quintana" got 9.7%. The series also trended on Twitter since this is the first teamup for JC, Ellen and Meg.
