OMB Raids Lead To Seizure Of P28Mn Pirated Dvds

Ronnie Ricketts and company have been busy lately as raids led by the Optical Media Board (OMB) have led to the seizure of pirated DVDs worth a whopping P6.1 million.

Ricketts revealed on Monday that raids in Laguna and Manila have resulted in the confiscation of 44 sacks of pirated DVDs as well as two television sets.

Meanwhile, Ricketts revealed that the OMB raided shops in Quiapo on Tuesday resulting in the seizure of P22-million worth of pirated DVDs. This brings the total worth of OMB seizures in a three-day period up to P28 million.

Ricketts said that most of the pirated DVDs seized come from China.

Fresh from attending a conference last week sponsored by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-United States Patent and Trademark Office, Ricketts led the raids on Sunday afternoon. in Pasay City, Las Piñas City, and in Los Baños, Laguna.

The raid in Pasay City was along Macapagal Avenue while the raid in Los Baños was along a road leading to the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

Ricketts told Philippine broadsheet The Philippine Daily Inquirer that the raids mark the start of what he terms as weekend raids which involve the OMB and authorities conducting raids on weekends, a time of the week vendors of illegal media least expect authorities will conduct raids.

According to the former actor, the OMB will start coordinating with other law enforcement agencies such as the National Bureau of Investigation for a stricter implementation of the law.
