"Feng Shui 2" Grosses P200.8 MillionKris Aquino's and Coco Martin's "Feng Shui 2" already earned P200.8 million as of January 4.
Kris said she prayed that this movie will make her and Coco "movie royalty." She thanked Direk Chito Rono and Coco for trusting her to share financially to the production cost of the film.
As a "primetime king," Coco should also be movie royalty and experience his first P200 million. "And Direk Chito & I silently held our breath to see if Feng Shui could surpass the 1st installment as well as our Sukob."
She then thanked her supporters for trusting their movie.
During the recently held Metro Manila Film Festival awards night, the horror flick did not receive any award. Kris wasn't even nominated for the Best Actress category. Coco, on the other hand, lost the Best Actor trophy to Derek Ramsay of "English Only, Please."
Kris, one of the hosts of Gabi Ng Parangal, told the audience then that she is already contented that "Feng Shui 2" is doing well at the box office. She then congratulated Derek and told Coco that their prayers are still answered because their movie had successful box office results.
"Feng Shui 2" now holds the record for the highest opening day gross for a Filipino horror film when it earned P31.4 million on December 25. Kris was the original cast of the first "Feng Shui" movie in 2004.
Meanwhile, Direk Chito believed that Kris is not truly the "Queen of Philippine Horror Movies." Her other blockbuster films are "Sukob" in 2006 and "Feng Shui" in 2004.
"The only time na we found out that she can really manage this kind of characters…is the drive of the person to be better, to have a better life."
Kris' core character in "Feng Shui" is a mother, and that is why is very effective in the movie. In the second installment, Kris' character has already survived and she has moved on to a better place after the tragedy 10 years ago. Her character now finds joy in fighting to regain the life she lost because of the horror.
Direk Chito said the role is perfect for Kris, especially because she has matured as an actress and as a TV host.
So far, "Feng Shui 2" is the second highest grossing film in MMFF 2014. The first was being held by "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin 2," which stars Vice Ganda and Kris' son, Bimby. On third slot is Vic Sotto's "My Big Bossing" followed by "English Only, Please."
The other MMFF films are (in no particular order): "Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2," "Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo," "Shake, Rattle and Roll XV," and "Muslim Magnum .357."
In total, the MMFF entries have earned P701 million in the box office.
