Ariella, 24, was a chemistry graduate. She followed in the footstep of Venus Raj who was the fourth runner-up in 2010; Shamcep Supsup, third runner-up in 2011; and Janine Tugonon, first runner-up in 2012.
She also continued the good run of Mutya Datul, who won as Miss Supranational 2013, and Miss World 2013 Megan Young.
Ariella placed in the top 16, and got the most social media votes. She also had a high score in the preliminary competitions.
Aside from Ariella, others who were in the top 16 were Miss Costa Rica Fabiana Granados, Miss Ukraine Olga Storozhenko, Miss China Jin Ye, Miss Great Britain Amy Willerton, Miss Indonesia Whulandary Herman, Miss Dominican Republic Yaritza Reyes, Miss Puerto Rico Monic Perez, Miss USA Erin Brady, Miss Nicaragua Nastassja Bolivar, Miss Switzerland Dominique Rinderknecht and Miss India Manasi Moghe.
The band Panic! At The Disco performed while the top 16 walked on the stage with their swimsuits on.
After this, the top 10 candidates were based on the scores during the swimsuit competition. These are: Miss Spain, Miss Philippines, Miss Great Britain, Miss India, Miss Brazil, Miss USA, Miss Ukraine, Miss Ecuador, Miss Venezuela and Miss Dominican Republic.
In her VTR, Ariella showed the strong "Filipino spirit" and "warm Filipino welcome." She also took pride in the beautiful spots of the Philippines--the beaches and tourist spots.

After the evening gown competition, the top five contestants were announced: Miss Ecuador, Miss Spain, Miss Brazil, Miss Philippines and Miss Venezuela.
Olympic medalist Tara Lipinski was the one who asked the question to Ariella: "What can be done about the lack of jobs for young people starting their careers around the world?"
Ariella greeted the audience in the Russian language, and consistently answered the questions with: "For the people who have lack of jobs, I do believe that we people should invest in education—and that is my primary advocacy—because if every one of us is educated, and we're well aware of what we are doing, we could land into jobs and could land good careers in the future. So, education is a primary source and it is a ticket for a better future."
The host of the pageant described Ariella as the "perfect candidate." She even said Ariella was a valedictorian when she was in high school.
According to the netizens, Ariella's victory is not as surprising because she dominated the pageant. She was also the only Asian who was in the top five. She was also the only one who didn't use an interpreter during the question and answer portion.
Ariella was also able to answer the question without any qualms.
That was why Ariella was even shocked when she was called the third runner-up. However, the beauty queen was contented with her place in the pageant since she was able to prove herself.
