Mary Jean Lastimosa Is Named As Miss Universe Philippines 2014The Philippines has a new candidate to field in the Miss Universe contest that will be held in Kyrgyzstan later this year. Her name is Mary Jean Lastimosa. This is the third time she joined the Bb. Pilipinas Universe.
The first time in 2011, she bagged the second runner-up title while in 2012, she was among the top 12.
Mary Jean is a 26-year-old entrepreneur from North Cotabato. Miss Universe contestants must not be older than 27 years old. She was crowned on March 30 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
She bested 39 other contestants, and is now challenged to take home the Miss Universe 2014 crown.
For the past four years, the Philippines has consistently placed in the top five of the beauty pageant. In 2010, Maria Venus Raj landed on the fourth runner-up spot while in 2011, Shamcey Supsup was the third runner-up.
In 2012, Janine Tugonon became the first runner-up while in 2013, Ariella Arida was named the third runner-up.
Other winners of the competition include Binibining Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti, Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Marie Santiago, Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2014 Parul Shah, and Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson.
The Philippines went on a winning streak last year--Miss Supranational 2013 Mutya Johanna Datul and Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago. Joanna Cindy Miranda, the Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2013, managed to land in the top 10 of the Miss Tourism Queen International 2013 pageant.
Guidotti, also known as Marianne by her friends and family, is a graduate of International Relations of the Ateneo de Manila Univeristy. She can speak three languages--Portuguese, English and Filipino.
Santiago was a crowd favorite during the competition. She was from Albay, and is a certified public accountant.
Shah is another crowd favorite and a repeater of the pageant. At 25, she is a registered nurse from Pangasinan and first joined the contest in 2013.
Janson, a 24-year-old finance analyst from Cebu, is the first Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental title holder--the newest addition to the Binibining Pilipinas franchise.
The first runner-up is Laura Lehman while the second runner-up is Hannah Ruth Sison.
