Another Glimpse At Binibining Pilipinas Gold WinnersBinibining Pilipinas successfully staged its 50th coronation night last April 14 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. For the year 2013, 50 beauties vied for the prestigious title. The night was a star-studded anniversary celebration of the beauty contest’s golden year. Martin Nievera and Dawn Zulueta hosted the event along with several other Binibini past winners.
Ariella Arida, 24 years old from Laguna, was crowned as the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, which is considered the most coveted crown in the pageant. She is set to represent the country in the prestigious Miss Universe beauty contest this year. Aside from that crown, she also won a special award, Best in Swimsuit. In the question and answer portion, Philippine National Police director general Allan Purisima asked her about the best lesson women can teach men. In her answer, she said she thought it would be the way to be sensitive as men are generally more logical.
Bea Rose Santiago, a 23-year old beauty from Masbate, was crowned as Bb. Pilipinas-International. She will be the country’s representative to this year’s Miss International pageant. The special award Miss Avon was given to her. In the question and answer portion, Japanese research scientist Hirofumi Hashimoto asked her to describe an ideal Filipino. She said she thinks Filipinos are proud and happy people.
The 23-year old Cindy Miranda from Nueva Ecija got the Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism crown. Aside from the crown, she also won two special awards, namely, Bb. Petron and Cream Silk Beyond Beautiful Woman. Judge Liliana Zadawski asked her about her best qualities as a person during the question and answer portion. She answered by saying that she is unstoppable. She added that she does everything she wants to do if she thinks she’s doing the right thing.
Mutya Johanna Datul, a 20-year-old from Isabela, bagged the Bb. Pilipinas Supranational crown. She was also named Miss Photogenic in the competition. Chilean Ambassador Roberto Mayorga asked her about her advocacy. She expressed her desire to help people in need especially those who are under the watch of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities.
Meanwhile, Pia Wurtzbach, a 23-year-old lady from Cagayan de Oro, was declared the first runner up. Before joining the pageant, she was a talent of Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm. She also bagged a special award---Bb. San Miguel Zero Fit and Sexy Body. PNP director general Purisima was also randomly selected to ask her a question in the question and answer portion. He asked about the Bb. Pilipinas’ greatest achievement, to which she answered the ability of the pageant to change peoples’ lives through inspiration.
Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc (BPCI) celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. This is why the pageant for this year is dubbed as Binibining Pilipias Gold. Since the contest’s inception in 1964, it has produced two crown holders of the Miss Universe pageant through Bb. Pilipinas 1969 Gloria Diaz and Bb. Pilipinas 1973 Margie Moran. It has also produced three winners in Miss International---Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), and Precious Lara Quigaman (2005).
In 1999, Bb. Pilipinas Miriam Quiambao almost bagged the Miss Universe crown. She was first runner-up. In 2012, Bb. Pilipinas Janine Tugonon, who just passed on her crown to this year’s winner, was also declared as the first runner up to Miss Universe from USA. In 2010, Venus Raj was the 4th runner up and in 2011, Shamcey Supsup was the 3rd runner up in the same international beauty pageant.
