Manny Pacquiao Plans To Retire In Boxing If He Loses On Next BoutThis could be the good news that Mommy Dionesia Pacquiao would want to hear. Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao’s long-time boxing trainer, has revealed that he and Pacquiao have an agreement that the latter would retire in boxing if he loses on his upcoming boxing match with American boxer Brando Rios.
The Pacquiao-Rios match would be held on November 24 in Macau, China. Boxing followers hope the 34-year-old boxing champ would finally win the match to catch up from the series of loses he incurred in his previous fights. The match would be the first time the two strong boxers would be facing off.
In an interview with Yahoo! Sports, Roach disclosed that the results of the next match would serve as the deciding factor over the boxing career of Pacquiao. Roach added that he is very certain that Pacquiao would be true to his words. He further revealed that if Pacquiao is beaten in another knock out, he would instantly turn his back from boxing.
Roach appeals for public support for the boxing champion. He said this is not the time to air doubts over Pacquiao’s chances of winning. He even reiterated that Pacquiao’s performance is deteriorating because of his age. Roach emphasizes that his protégé committed a wrong tactic, which should be blamed for his loss in his previous fight.
In his past boxing match with Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez last December 2012, Pacquiao lost. Most of his fans thought it was the bitterest defeat for their idol because he was knocked out by his opponent. Pacquiao accepted his loss and simply said that defeats are inevitable in boxing.
But in the homefront, what was most interesting back then was how his feisty mom, Mommy D, took that defeat. She was quoted in several TV shows blaming his new religion for the series of losses. According to Mommy D, Pacquiao started losing in his bouts when he ‘turned his back from the Virgin Mary.’ Mommy D also blamed the born-again religious movements who recruited his son to be part of them.
Unstoppable Mommy D
Mommy D was also most vocal about her call for Pacquiao to finally end his boxing career. The concerned mother back then said she gets stressed each time her son gets to the boxing ring to fight. But Pacquiao responded by telling everyone that he has a contract to honor (with his promoter Top Rank).
Pacquiao chose not to make any comment about his mom’s reaction to his previous defeat. It could be recalled that Pacquiao chose to be a renewed Christian upon the insistence of his wife, Jinkee. For her part, Jinkee has been thankful to their new religion because her husband has finally turned away from vices.
Roach revealed that if Pacquiao wins the match against Rios, he would not only redeem his reputation as a boxing champ. That victory would also help make the highly anticipated match with Floyd Mayweather Jr possible. Mayweather would be fighting undefeated Mexican boxer Saul Alvarez in a boxing event to be held in Las Vegas this September 14.
