ABS-CBN Rules Nationwide TV Viewing For MayABS-CBN is the most watched television channel in the Philippines, according to Kantar Media. It said that among the television networks in the country, the Kapamilya network had an average total day audience share of 42% compared to GMA's 31%.
Now that "It's Showtime" has finally beaten the longest-running noontime show in the Philippines, "Eat Bulaga," it would be safe to say that ABS-CBN completely dominates the noontime and primetime block.
Just last week, "It's Showtime" topped the ratings of "Eat Bulaga" on a Saturday, the day GMA's noontime show usually poses its highest rating for the week. The average national TV rating of "It's Showtime" is pegged at 15.2% while "Eat Bulaga" only has a share of 12.9%, which is slightly higher than last month's 12.4%. "It's Showtime" averaged 13.7% in April.
And because of "It's Showtime's" performance in the noontime block, the Kapamilya network also experienced a boost in its afternoon TV programs, according to Kantar Media. Programs shown between 12PM to 3PM had an average share of 43%, slightly higher than last month's 41%. GMA had 44 % in May.
When it comes to primetime block, ABS-CBN continued to rule with its Primetime Bida's "Juan Dela Cruz," "Ina, Kapatid, Anak," "Apoy Sa Dagat" and koreanovela "Missing You." For that block, ABS-CBN has a commanding average of 46%, which is 16 points more than Kapuso network's 30%.
This is where ABS-CBN has truly made its mark. Dominating the primetime block means more advertisers for the Kapamilya network.
In May, 13 out of the top 15 TV programs were ABS-CBN shows. Among these were "Juan Dela Cruz" with 33.3%, "Maalaala Mo Kaya" with 30.8%, "Ina, Kapatid, Anak" with 30.5% and "Wansapanataym" with 28.6%.
ABS-CBN also beat GMA-7 in what was supposedly its strongest suit--News and Current Affairs. Kantar Media data showed "TV Patrol" has an average national TV rating of 26% while "24 Oras" only had 16%, or 10 points lower than the Kapamilya network.
Other shows in the top 15 programs were "Be Careful With My Heart" (25%), "Pilipinas Got Talent" (23.1%), "Rated K" (22.3%), "Apoy Sa Dagat" (20.8%), "Minute To Win It" (20.5%), "Gandang Gabi Vice" (19.8%), "Kapamilya Deal or No Deal" (19%) and "Goin' Bulilit" (19%).
ABS-CBN also had a lead in Balance Luzon, or areas in Luzon but outside Mega Manila. The Kapamilya network had an average audience share of 44% versus GMA's 33%.
In Visayas, the Kapamilya network had 50% while Kapuso network had 27%. The same thing in Mindanao, ABS-CBN had an average share of 54% while GMA only had 22%.
To get this data, Kantar Media used a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes. It is the leading TV audience measurement provider that uses both digital and analog platforms.
