I-Witness Summary

I-Witness is a documentary news run by GMA Network. It is a multi-awarded show that has garnered many distinctions both from local and international stage. The documentary news is being shown every evening of Mondays (10:00 pm). Originally, i-Witness is titled as “I-Witness; The Probe Team Documentaries”. The documentary news was launched on January 21, 1998. The documentary is famous for documenting what seems to be ordinary from people’s eyes and delivering it to the public and different perspective. There are able to present somebody’s world and introduce it to the viewers. Every episode, the host will take one particular subject and talk about that subject for the whole show.
I-Witness is created by GMA network Probe Production Inc. It is developed by the GMA News and Public Affairs. Currently, the hosts of the show are Kara David, Howie Severino, Sandra Aguinaldo, and Jay Taruc. The show has over 700 episodes created and aired. Originally, the documentary show runs for around an hour but now it is only 30 minutes.


Not only is the show multi-awarded by it is hosted by some of the most notable Filipino journalists in the country. For example, Kara David is one of the most distinguished journalists in the Philippines and has many distinctions both from local (17 awards) and abroad (14 awards).
Another journalist that has made a dent in the Philippine broadcasting is Howie Severino. He had his educational background from the United States. Since he was a child, he already wanted to be a journalist. And now, it is very evident that journalism is his calling which is proven by his many awards and citations.

Aside from Kara and Howie, there are many other hosts that made their appearance in i-Witness. They are Rhea Santos, Maki Pulido, Susan Enriquez, Jiggy Manicad, Raffy Tima, Vicky Morales, Cesar Apolinario, Luchi Cruz-Valdez, Mike Enriquez, Che Che Lazaro, and Jessico Soho. All of them are big names in the Philippine broadcasting and journalism industry.

Like what was mentioned earlier, i-Witness has gain the respect of many other documentary shows in the Philippines because of the numerous awards they have gathered throughout their years of existence. Some of their awards are George Peabody Awards, New York Festivals, Catholic Mass Media Awards, PMPC Star Awards for Television, UP Gandingan Awards, Gandingan: UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Broadcast Choice Awards, Lasallain Scholarum Awards, USTv Student Choice Awards, Gawad Tanglaw, and MTRCB TV Awards. Most of these categories, i-Witness almost always obtain awards every year.
