Face Mask Popularity

Face mask is a very popular business in the Philippines nowadays. It was known after the coming out of the COVID-19. Since the said virus is observed to be airborne, wearing one is advisable. It is one of the best thing to do to lessen the possibility of acquiring the virus. COVID-19 spreads through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The World Health Organization advises to use surgical mask is to cover your nose and mouth.

The reality of COVID-19

The virus stays in the air for several hours to a day. Because of that reality, even if no one saw coughing or sneezing in the act, we cannot say that the place is safe. It can happen that couple of hours ago, people positive with the virus coughed in the room and eventually leave. When we enter inside the same room, it looks like safe since the virus is invisible.

People bought bulk orders upon knowing the reality about the virus. Business owners ended out of stock at the middle of the day because of the face mask high demand. Until such time, all pharmacies are sold out of face mask. The supply of mask cannot meet the demand of the people.

Homemade Mask in Substitute to Surgical Mask

To address the said problem, homemade face masks are made in substitute to the surgical masks. Business owners made bulk of masks made up of cloth. A fabric is cut into rectangular piece that is enough to cover the nose and the mouth of user. A garter or the like is attached at both end part of the cloth to hold the mask in place.

According to experts homemade cloth masks aren’t ideal. But since Philippines experiences shortage of medical-grade protective gear in the midst of a pandemic, they may be the best option for some people. It is the best but at least, lessen the chance of acquiring the virus compare to those who use nothing. Furthermore, experts advised that it should be paired with frequent hand washing and crowd avoidance.
