Lav Diaz ‘Phantosmia’ Makes History at Venice Film Festival

Filipino cinematic titan Lav Diaz is once again making waves on the international stage. His latest work, “Phantosmia,” has been officially selected as an out-of-competition entry at the prestigious 81st Venice Film Festival. 

This marks a historic achievement for the director, setting his status as a leading figure in world cinema. Diaz has now been featured at the world’s oldest film festival a remarkable eight times, evidence of his enduring artistic vision.

“Phantosmia,” a haunting black-and-white drama, features a talented ensemble cast led by veteran actor Ronnie Lazaro and rising star Janine Gutierrez. 

Diaz, a true auteur, took on multiple roles in the film’s creation, serving as director, writer, cinematographer, editor, and production designer.
