Maris Racal made her long-awaited return to social media on January 4, using the platform to promote her film Sunshine. Her reappearance follows a brief hiatus after a controversy involving her co-star, Anthony Jennings.

In an Instagram story, Racal shared the poster of Sunshine along with its screening schedule for the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival. The actress urged fans to support the film, saying, “Get your tickets now.” This marks her first public activity since stepping back from the spotlight.

Directed by Antoinette Jadaone, Sunshine tells the story of a young gymnast, portrayed by Racal, who faces a life-changing decision after learning she is pregnant just before her national team tryouts. The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Annika Co, Jennica Garcia, Elijah Canlas, Meryll Soriano, and Xyriel Manabat.

Sunshine had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024, earning a nomination for Best Youth Film at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Director Jadaone shared plans to bring the movie to international audiences before its release in the Philippines.

Racal’s social media comeback comes on the heels of a controversy that unfolded in late 2024. Jennings’ ex-girlfriend accused him of being involved with Racal while still in a relationship. Racal later clarified that she was unaware of Jennings’ situation at the time. Following the revelation, Jennings issued a public apology, taking responsibility for the misunderstanding.
