Atasha Muhlach, a rising star in Philippine showbiz, has been chosen as the lead actress for the Philippine version of Bad Genius: The Series. The announcement came from Studio Viva on Tuesday. Muhlach will play Linette Estrella, a smart high school student who gets a scholarship to attend a top school. Although Lin comes from a public school, she works hard to fit in and keep her scholarship.
A talented cast will join Muhlach, including Jairus Aquino, Hyacinth Callado, and Gab Lagman. Aquino will play Bank, one of the smartest students in the class. He initially sees Lin as competition but later joins her cheating scheme due to financial problems. Callado will portray Grace, Lin’s first friend, who becomes her first client for the cheating operation. Lagman will play Pat, a privileged student who struggles with school but helps recruit clients for the scheme using his family’s wealth.
Muhlach expressed her excitement about playing the lead role in this series. She said the opportunity was important to her because it marks her first time in a lead role in a series. “This is special for me because it’s my first series, and I want to give my best,” she said during a media conference. She also mentioned how she had to think carefully about accepting the role. “I’m nervous because it’s a big role, but I’m willing to take the risk,” she added.
The original Bad Genius was a popular Thai film about a brilliant student who created a cheating operation to help classmates pass exams. In the Philippine version, Lin uses her intelligence to help other students cheat. At first, she does it out of kindness, but soon she turns it into a money-making business.
The Philippine version promises to be an exciting and fresh take on the story. Director Derick Cabrido, known for his award-winning films, is directing the series. Cabrido’s vision and experience will bring a new perspective to the original film’s exciting plot.
Fans of the original film and those who enjoy drama and suspense are looking forward to the Philippine version. Muhlach’s performance in a serious role is one of the reasons many people are excited. She is known for her positive and bubbly personality, so playing a more serious and complex character will be a big change for her.
Filming for the series started in March 2025, but the exact premiere date remains unannounced. The series brings a new twist to the popular story, and many fans are eager to see how it compares to the original.
