Rachelle Ann Go is a celebrated international theater star who has made a significant impact on both Broadway and the West End. Known for her remarkable performances, she recently spent seven weeks in the Philippines with her family. During this time, she appeared on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” sharing her happiness and contentment. Rachelle’s journey to stardom, though, was filled with challenges, making her success even more inspiring.
Rachelle’s rise to fame began in 2004 when she won the singing competition “Search for a Star.” This victory opened the doors to a successful career in both music and theater. She went on to perform in several iconic shows, including Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, and Hamilton. In Miss Saigon, she captured the audience’s attention with her portrayal of Gigi Van Tranh. As Fantine in Les Misérables, she showcased her powerful voice, and in Hamilton, she embodied Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, the wife of Alexander Hamilton.
When Rachelle first moved to London, she did so without an agent or manager. She recalled, “I moved there without an agent, without any manager. I didn’t have any training in theater. All of them were trained.” Despite facing the challenge of being a newcomer without formal training, she persisted. Over time, she gained an agent through the help of her late friend, direk Bobby Garcia, and now shares the same agent as Lea Salonga, another renowned Filipino theater artist.
Rachelle’s journey was also marked by personal struggles, particularly with insecurity and harsh criticism. Early in her career, people told her she wasn’t attractive enough and lacked vocal strength. She reflected on this experience, advising young people to focus on their own talents: “I just need to focus on what I can do, on the gift that God has given me.” Instead of letting criticism hold her back, Rachelle used it as motivation to improve and become better.
During their stay in the Philippines, Rachelle and Martin reunited with close friends Erik Santos, Sarah Geronimo, and Matteo Guidicelli. Despite being based in London, Rachelle stays in touch with her showbiz friends. She explained, “With the showbiz world, it’s hard to find someone you can trust, but we’ve gone through a lot together, so there’s trust. We open up to each other.” This shows that even in the competitive entertainment world, lasting friendships are possible.
Rachelle Ann Go’s story is a proof to perseverance and talent. From winning a local singing competition to becoming an internationally recognized theater star, her journey continues to inspire many. By overcoming early insecurities and criticism, Rachelle has become a role model for aspiring artists. Her continued success in global theater proves that determination, hard work, and self-belief can take you far. As she makes her mark on the world stage, Rachelle remains a proud ambassador of Filipino talent.
