Chelsea Manalo of Bulacan was named Miss Universe Philippines 2024 during the grand coronation night held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 22.

The night was filled with excitement and anticipation, especially during the nerve-wracking question-and-answer portion. When asked how she would use her beauty and confidence to empower others, Chelsea Manalo delivered an inspiring message that resonated with many.

“As a woman of color, I have always faced challenges. I was told that beauty has standards. But for me, I have listened to always believe in my mother, to always believe in yourself, uphold the vows that you have,” Manalo stated passionately. “Because of these, I am already influencing many women who are facing me right now. As a transformational woman, I have 52 other delegates here who have helped me to become the woman I am. Thank you.“

This powerful statement showed her confidence and her commitment to empowering others, which ultimately secured her the crown. However, Manalo’s journey wasn’t without controversy. Earlier, she faced criticism for her tourism video, which featured the New Manila International Airport development site. Critics pointed out the environmental issues associated with the project, including the cutting down of over 600 mangrove trees in 2018 along the coastal area of Barangay Taliptip. Despite this, Manalo’s ability to rise above the controversy and focus on her mission to inspire and lead shines brightly.

In addition to Chelsea Manalo’s crowning moment, other titles were awarded during the event. Justine Tarah Marie Valencia, who also placed third runner-up, took home the Miss Supranational Philippines crown. Pampanga’s Cyrille Payumo was named Miss Charm Philippines, Iloilo’s Alexie Brooks was crowned Miss Eco International Philippines, and Maria Ahtisa Manalo received the Miss Cosmo Philippines title.
