Gary Valenciano, affectionately called “Mr. Pure Energy,” delivered a heartfelt performance during his two-night “Pure Energy, One More Time” concert, even as he battled severe dehydration. On December 22, the second night of the show, he stepped onstage equipped with a blood sugar monitor, diabetes patch, and elbow strap for his IV plug—a testament to his resilience and unwavering dedication.
Earlier that day, Valenciano admitted he doubted his ability to perform. However, with encouragement from his wife Angeli and faith in what he described as a “higher calling,” he pushed forward. Despite taking breaks to manage his condition, he completed the two-hour show, captivating the audience with songs and stories of perseverance.
The concert, which was divided into five segments, reflected adjustments to accommodate his health. Opening with Shout for Joy, Valenciano’s performance drew cheers and excitement from fans, proving that his energy and charisma remain undiminished.
Valenciano reflected on his journey and shared a “vision” he experienced in 2008. He described it as a moment of divine revelation. He spoke of walking toward a bright horizon accompanied by peace and encouragement to embrace a new chapter. This vision, he explained, guides his decision to focus more on inspiring and uplifting others through his music and presence.
During the show, he acknowledged his son Paolo’s contributions as the concert’s director. He also celebrated collaborations with artists like SB19, Darren Espanto, and Gloc-9. Valenciano clarified that he is not retiring. Instead, he is entering a new phase of his career focused on faith and inspiration.
“I’m walking into an empty horizon with hope, energy, and trust in God, the source of my pure energy,” he told the crowd. For Valenciano, this concert wasn’t just a performance but a declaration of purpose and a promise to continue uplifting others.
