World Hip-hop Dance Champion Gela Atayde shared her appreciation for ABS-CBN over the weekend for giving her a platform to inspire dancers nationwide. As the youngest daughter of actress Sylvia Sanchez and businessman Art Atayde, Gela is hosting the new dance reality show, “Time to Dance.” The show premiered on Saturday night, January 18, on ABS-CBN and Nathan Studios.
“I want to put the spotlight on all the dancers,” said Gela, a 22-year-old student from De La Salle University, pursuing an AB in Communication Arts. “This show is theirs. I’m excited to share their journeys and hope their stories will inspire others.”
Championing the Dance Community
The show features aspiring dancers and gives them the opportunity to showcase their skills. Gela emphasized the importance of sharing their stories, especially with the dance community, and how it can be relatable for viewers.
“These dancers’ stories must be heard. It’s amazing to be a part of this show, and I’m so thankful to ABS-CBN for making it happen,” Gela said.
Gela, who is also an accomplished actress, revealed that while dancing is close to her heart, acting remains her first love. However, she aims to succeed in both fields. “Acting is my first love, but I also want to be known as a dancer. I’m working hard to balance both careers,” she said.
In encouraging the show’s contestants, Gela advised them to trust in their preparation. “Trust your body, do it with pride, and have confidence,” she shared. “If you’ve trained well, it will shine on stage.”
Gela is part of the Legit Status dance group, which recently won the 2023 World Hip-hop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona. The group triumphed over 54 other teams worldwide.
While celebrating her success, Gela reflected on the importance of humility. “Being a champion means others look up to you. I take the title seriously and strive to stay grounded,” she said.
A Passion That Inspires
“Time to Dance” is not just a dance competition for Gela. She views it as an opportunity to help aspiring dancers and share the power of their passion. Gela also expressed gratitude toward Star Magic, her mother, and Direk Lauren Dyogi for believing in her and making this project a reality.
With her new role, Gela hopes to continue making a difference and looks forward to future dance collaborations with stars like Sarah Geronimo, Billy Crawford, and Gary Valenciano. “I’m grateful for this chance and excited to keep learning and inspiring,” she added.
Gela Atayde’s passion for dance continues to shine as she champions the stories of aspiring dancers across the nation.
