Among the many characters she has portrayed, Pokwang is most familiar with playing a mother. As a mother of two, she brings that experience to her latest role as Mayumi in the GMA Afternoon Prime series “Binibining Marikit.” The show stars Herlene Budol in the title role and marks Pokwang’s return to television dramas after a two-year break. Before this, she appeared in “Lolong” Season 1 and “Jose & Maria’s Bonggang Villa.”
“I usually play a poor mother,” Pokwang shared in a recent interview. “But this time, my character even went to Japan.”
She also enjoys the lively atmosphere on set, especially bonding over food. “We always have fun on set. I love being around people who enjoy eating because I also love to serve food. Eating together strengthens our bond.”
This is Pokwang’s first time working with Herlene in a drama series. However, their connection started earlier when they co-hosted “TiktoClock.” Their playful dynamic behind the scenes continues on the set of “Binibining Marikit.”
“Our dressing room is always chaotic,” she laughed. “We balance each other well and understand each other’s strengths.”
Pokwang also appreciates Herlene’s comedic timing. “She’s a natural. It comes out effortlessly.”
Beyond their roles on-screen, Pokwang also acts as a mentor. “Sometimes, she shares so many stories with me, especially about her family. I give her advice on valuing her hard-earned success.”
Pokwang stresses financial responsibility. “We’re not always in the spotlight. We should think about a fallback. Save whenever you can.”
She also advises Herlene about self-worth and priorities. “Love yourself first. Focus on your family and career before thinking about love.”
She admires how young stars today understand the importance of saving for the future.
Pokwang describes the show as a mix of drama and comedy. “One moment, you’ll cry; the next, you’ll laugh. There are always surprises.”
The story explores the relationships between mother and child, and father and child. Consequently, expect a balance of romantic moments and heartfelt drama.
Watch Pokwang as Mayumi in “Binibining Marikit” from Mondays to Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. on GMA Prime.
