Actress Rufa Mae Quinto has posted bail after surrendering to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Quinto returned from the United States on January 8 and spent the night at the NBI headquarters. On January 9, she paid P1.7 million in bail, as ordered by the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 111.
Quinto faces 14 counts of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code. The charges are linked to her involvement with Dermacare, a skincare company accused of cheating investors. Despite the accusations, Quinto has said she is innocent. During her court appearance, she pleaded not guilty.
In an emotional statement to the media, Quinto thanked the court and asked the complainants for understanding. “Pasensiya na po kayo. Oo, you deserve an explanation kaya nga po ako bumalik, humarap… isa-isa. Pero sana, binibigyan po ako ng karapatang mag-explain,” she said. Quinto explained that she is also a victim and hopes for a fair chance to share her side.
Relief and Belief in Justice
She added, “Nakakanerbiyos po lahat ng nangyari sa akin, nakakalungkot… pero naniniwala po ako na ang katotohanan ay magpi-prevail.” Quinto also shared her relief at being free again. “Naiiyak ako kasi ang sarap maging malaya… di ba, (the) best things in life are free and to be heard.”
The actress’s case has drawn a lot of public attention. Reports say Quinto went to court with NBI personnel to follow legal procedures. Posting bail allows her to remain free as the trial moves forward.
The charges claim Dermacare broke the law by asking for investments without proper registration. Complainants say they lost money due to false claims by the company. While Quinto has been connected to Dermacare’s actions, she insists on her right to due process and continues to claim she is innocent.
As the case moves forward, Quinto’s supporters and critics await updates. The actress hopes her explanation will clear up the issues and that justice will be served. For now, she focuses on dealing with the charges while trying to regain her personal and professional stability.
