Filipino singer Sofronio Vasquez has officially joined Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, following his groundbreaking victory on “The Voice USA” Season 26. This milestone was celebrated during the “Kapamilya Dream Come True: Sofronio Vasquez Contract Signing” event at ABS-CBN’s Studio 3.
Vasquez made history as the first Filipino and first male Asian to win “The Voice USA.” Prior to this, he was a finalist in the second season of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” and secured third place in its all-star edition in 2019.
The contract signing event was attended by ABS-CBN’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Cory Vidanes, Star Magic and Entertainment Production head Direk Laurenti Dyogi, and “It’s Showtime” Business Unit Head Mr. Reily Santiago.
In his message, Direk Laurenti Dyogi emphasized the significance of Vasquez’s achievement:
“It was not only your dream; it was the dream of every Filipino artist to prove to the world continuously na mahusay ang mang-aawit na Pilipino.”
Mr. Reily Santiago also praised Vasquez’s talent and determination:
“We knew for many years in TNT and ‘It’s Showtime’ that you had the skill, the talent, and the mindset.”
Expressing his gratitude, Vasquez said:
“Gusto ko lang po ulit magpasalamat sa Star Magic. Sinasabi ng mga tao na willing ako mag-sacrifice, but may mga tao rin po na willing mag-sacrifice to help me achieve my dreams.”
He also acknowledged his coach, Michael Bublé, for instilling the belief that Filipinos can achieve global recognition.
Looking ahead, Vasquez has several projects in the pipeline, including an upcoming album, a special project about his life story, new endorsements, and an international concert tour. The tour will cover the US, Canada, the Middle East, and Australia, with performances scheduled on the following dates:
- March 8: Los Angeles
- March 15: San Francisco
- March 29: Sacramento
- April 25: Winnipeg
- May 2: Calgary
- May 4: Vancouver
- May 24: Dubai
- June 14: Utica
- July 19: New York City
- July 25: Sydney
- July 26: Melbourne
Vasquez’s partnership with Star Magic underscores ABS-CBN’s commitment to nurturing exceptional talent and promoting Filipino artists on the global stage.
In a related development, Vasquez addressed questions about his decision to sign with a local label rather than pursuing a career in the United States. He shared that his coach, Michael Bublé, advised him to highlight his identity as an Asian and Filipino artist. Vasquez emphasized the importance of leveraging his roots to sustain his career, noting that many “The Voice” winners face challenges in the competitive U.S. music industry.
He also revealed receiving an invitation to perform in “Miss Saigon” in London’s West End, potentially as the character Thuy. However, he is considering this offer carefully due to his packed schedule of shows worldwide.
Vasquez’s journey reflects his dedication to his craft and his desire to represent Filipino talent on both local and international stages.
