For 25 years, GMA’s “Unang Hirit” has been a constant companion in Filipino homes, waking up viewers with news, stories, and a sense of community. Since its debut in 1999, the program has evolved into more than just a morning show—it has become a part of its audience’s daily routine.
The anniversary celebration kicks off with a week-long special, blending nostalgia and new surprises. Additionally, hosts Arnold Clavio, Susan Enriquez, and Lyn Ching expressed gratitude to their loyal viewers for supporting the program through the years. “Bahagi na ng aming buhay ang magpasaya sa inyo at magbigay ng pag-asa,” Clavio shared, reflecting the show’s mission to inform and inspire.
As part of the festivities, “Unang Hirit” unveiled a refreshed version of its iconic theme song. Jose Mari Chan, alongside Zephanie and Mark Bautista, performed the special rendition, bringing new energy to the familiar tune. Meanwhile, the Sexbomb Dancers, also marking their 25th anniversary, reunited for a spirited performance that added a dose of nostalgia.
The celebration wasn’t limited to on-air performances. The Sorpresa Bente Singko series attracted viewers with P25 rice, LPG deals, and free giveaways. Similarly, these initiatives highlighted the program’s commitment to uplifting communities.
Host Suzi Entrata-Abrera reminisced about her journey, highlighting her deep connection with longtime “Unang Hirit” viewers. “It’s heartwarming when people share that we’ve been part of their lives since their student days,” she said. Co-host Ivan Mayrina echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the honor of being welcomed into Filipino homes every morning.
As “Unang Hirit” celebrates this milestone, it looks ahead to continuing its legacy. More than just a source of news for a quarter of a century. It has also been a trusted companion, a wake-up call, and a reminder of the resilience and warmth of its audience.
