After a ten-year hiatus, 2NE1 returned to Manila for their “Welcome Back Asia Tour.” This moment marked a historic milestone in K-pop as the iconic group reunited for a sold-out concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on November 16. For fans and Sandara Park, who began her career in the Philippines, it was an emotional homecoming.
Celebrating 15 Years of 2NE1 Magic
The concert honoured 2NE1’s 15th anniversary, making it extra special as the group performed together as a complete unit. CL, Sandara Park (Dara), Park Bom, and Minzy dominated the stage with hit songs from their legendary catalog. They opened with their debut track “Fire,” igniting the arena with excitement and nostalgia.
The crowd sang along to favourites like “I Am the Best,” “Lonely,” and “Go Away.” Solo performances also took centre stage, with CL dazzling the audience with “The Baddest Female” and “MTBD.” Sandara celebrated her 40th birthday with fans, who sang “Happy Birthday” before she performed her 2004 Filipino solo track “In or Out.”
“Manila is my second home,“ Sandara shared, visibly moved during the celebration. She reminisced about the group’s first Manila concert in 2014 and thanked fans for their unwavering support. Minzy expressed her joy, calling the reunion a “special moment,” and the group shared a heartfelt embrace on stage, showcasing their unbreakable bond.
Filipino Blackjacks, known for their passionate energy, created a sea of voices as they cheered and sang every lyric. The atmosphere reflected the group’s profound impact on the K-pop scene and their enduring connection with fans in the Philippines.
The concert concluded with an emotional goodbye, leaving fans teary-eyed yet hopeful. 2NE1 promised to cherish the memories, proclaiming, “Blackjacks, we love you so much!” This unforgettable night was not only a celebration of their return but also a testament to their legacy in K-pop and their Filipino fans’ loyalty.
