Michelle Dee, the former beauty queen, will trade her pageant gowns for high-fashion designer outfits as she steps into her new role as a fashion correspondent for Vogue Philippines.
Dee, who recently turned over her winnings from the “Voice for Change Challenge” to the Autism Society of the Philippines, expressed her excitement for this new venture. “It feels so fulfilling because [Voice for Change] was part of the Miss Universe competition I worked the hardest for,” she said. “And for us to receive a tangible amount, to be able just to set things in motion, to help over 100 chapters around the Philippines, this can really go a long way.”
A Dream Realized
As a fashion correspondent, Dee will be covering Paris Fashion Week from September 23 to October 1. She’s preparing for her role by doing extensive research on designers, trends, and the stories behind the pieces. “It’s just being able to know what you’re doing, what you’re talking about,” she explained. “And also because I am a fashionista, I know I’m very passionate about it.”
Dee’s journey to fashion correspondent began with an unexpected offer. “Paris is very exciting because it feels like we’re wearing a Miss Universe wardrobe,” she said. “I mean, of course, the style isn’t for a pageant, but, again, I’m highlighting a lot of young and well-established designers.”
After Paris, Dee will be heading to Los Angeles for Fashion Week. Her new career has made her mother, Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, incredibly proud. “My mom is just happy that I’m traveling,” Dee shared. “She’s glad I can explore and experience even a little bit of what she experienced when she was younger.”
While Dee is excited about her international opportunities, she clarified that she’s not leaving the Philippines for good. “I have amazing opportunities abroad,” she said. “But as I said, the Philippines will always be my home base. I will always be proud to call the Philippines my home.”
