Ahtisa Manalo, the reigning Miss Philippines-Cosmo 2024, turned heads at the national costume competition of the inaugural Miss Cosmo pageant with her stunning “Dyesebel” creation. Inspired by the iconic Filipino mermaid character, the costume was a breathtaking blend of tradition and modernity.

Known for her signature fan-adorned national costumes, Manalo surprised many by replacing the usual feathers with shimmering fin-like accents. The orange-hued gown, designed by Ehrran Montoya, captured the essence of Dyesebel, a beloved figure in Philippine pop culture.

“The costume is a celebration of both the rich heritage and the contemporary allure of Philippine comic book legends,” Manalo shared on social media. She also acknowledged the character’s creator, Mars Ravelo, for his contribution to Filipino storytelling.

Beyond its visual appeal, the costume incorporated a unique element: a discreetly placed bubble machine. As Manalo strutted down the runway, bubbles floated around her, adding a touch of whimsy and magic to the presentation.

The “Dyesebel” costume was more than just a fashion statement. It represented the power of storytelling in shaping Filipino identity and connecting generations. Manalo emphasized the importance of preserving cultural legends in the modern world, highlighting the role of pop culture in uniting people and inspiring creativity.

“It deserves to be celebrated for its unique ability to unite people, inspire creativity, and keep our cultural legends alive in the modern world,” she added.

A Strong Contender

Manalo’s journey in the Miss Cosmo pageant has been marked by success. She recently topped the “first station” of the “Cosmo People’s Choice” online poll, earning her the right to take over the pageant’s official Instagram page for 24 hours. She is also leading the second stage of the online voting dubbed “National Pride,” which could earn her a guaranteed spot in the Top 10 during the finals.

Additionally, Manalo is competing for the “Cosmo Social Ambassador” award, where she has already garnered over 1 million votes. The winner of this award will secure a Top 21 placement in the pageant.

The 2024 Miss Cosmo pageant culminates on October 5 in Ho Chi Minh City. Ahtisa Manalo’s impressive national costume performance solidifies her as a strong contender.
