The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) honored Philippine cinema with a vibrant mural along EDSA. The artwork features iconic movie stars who have shaped the silver screen. It celebrates their contributions and the lasting legacy of Filipino filmmaking.
The mural is a highlight of the festival’s 50th anniversary. It features a diverse array of talented actors and actresses. Notable figures include Dolphy, Gloria Romero, Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, Eddie Garcia, Fernando Poe Jr., Christopher de Leon, Maricel Soriano, Vice Ganda, Vic Sotto, Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Amy Austria, Joseph Estrada, Cesar Montano, and Anthony Alonzo.
“We wanted to pay homage to the legends who have shaped the Philippine film industry,” said Atty. Don Artes, the MMDA acting chairman and MMFF overall concurrent chairman. “These actors and actresses have left an indelible mark on our hearts and minds, and their contributions will continue to inspire future generations.”
The selection of stars featured in the mural was based on a rigorous criteria, considering their impact on the MMFF’s success and their significant contributions to the local film scene. Those who were part of top-grossing films and best actor/actress awardees over the past 50 years were given priority.
Celebrating Philippine Cinema’s Best
“We believe that these individuals represent the best of the best in Philippine cinema,” Artes added. “Their talent, dedication, and passion have made the MMFF a cultural institution that has enriched the lives of countless Filipinos.”
As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, the MMFF also launched the “Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta” initiative, offering audiences the chance to relive iconic MMFF films from the past at a discounted price of P50. This nostalgic experience allowed viewers to reconnect with beloved movies and appreciate the evolution of Philippine cinema over the decades.
With the unveiling of the EDSA mural and the “Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta” initiative, the MMFF has not only commemorated its 50th anniversary but has also reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the legacy of Philippine cinema and celebrating the talented individuals who have made it a beloved institution.
