Filipino pride was on full display at the ContentAsia 2024 Awards in Taipei, Taiwan, as the Philippines’ top talents shined. Arjo Atayde, known for his charismatic performances, took home the prestigious Gold Award for Best Male Lead in a TV Program/Series. He won for his role as Anton dela Rosa in Cattleya Killer. It was truly a killer performance.
Arjo took the stage and delivered a heartfelt speech that moved the audience. “It’s my first time in Taipei, and this award makes it extra special!” he shared excitedly. He thanked the talented team behind the show and gave a special mention to his wife, Maine Mendoza. “To my wife, who understands the hustle and hard work—it wouldn’t be possible without you,” Arjo said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
But Arjo wasn’t the only Filipino talent turning heads. A Very Good Girl, the Star Cinema flick starring Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly de Leon, bagged the Bronze Award for Best Asian Feature Film/Telemovie. Going up against some heavy hitters, including Japan’s Trespassers (Gold) and GMA’s Firefly (Silver), the film held its own, proving that Filipino cinema is a force to be reckoned with.
ABS-CBN’s Zoomers won the Gold Award for Best Asian Short-form Drama/Series. Director Theodore Boborol accepted the award, celebrating the show’s success. This youth-oriented series is capturing attention with its fresh portrayal of Gen Z life.
Filipino Talent Among the Best in Asia
The competition at this year’s awards was intense, with over 500 entries from 13 Asian countries all competing for the top spot. However, Filipino talent stood out, with ABS-CBN and GMA Network emerging as two of the night’s biggest winners. Notably, GMA’s “Secret Slaves: A Jessica Soho Report on Human Trafficking” earned the prestigious Best Current Affairs Programme Made in Asia award, while “All-Out Sundays” danced its way to the Bronze Award for Best Variety Programme. With these victories, the influence of Filipino media on the international stage continues to grow.
