As days go by, number of confirmed cases of the COVID-19 gradually increase in Davao City Philippines. To mitigate the spread of the said virus, the City Mayor Sara Duterte made a move.
She decided to allow the barangay personnel to issue a quarantine pass to each family. The quarantine pass is a card with the name of a person.
The person in the pass is the only one allowed to go out from their house for valid reasons. Going out is only valid when he/she is transacting important things outside such as buying foods and medicines.
The person in the pass should use mask and observe social distancing practice upon going out.
The move of the City Mayor
When the Mayor gave the go signal to the officials of the 182 barangays to start the issuance of the pass, chaos and miscommunication arose.
The people in the community received different instructions. Some people went to the barangay hall, which violates the no mass gathering order. Some also received the pass since barangay officials went to their houses one by one, and some did not.
“Quarantine passes are indeed ideal in controlling the movement of people inside the barangays, however, barangays imposed different guidelines and different kinds of passes, which confused Dabawenyos,” Duterte said.
Addressing the problem
The Mayor of the City mentioned about the new plans. They are planning to make new quarantine passes.
In addition, a new clear guidelines will be made when the situation of Davao City will get worse. For the meantime, to control the spread COVID-19, checkpoints, health workers and policemen make an interview to the passengers of the public utility vehicles.
They allow public utility vehicles to continue but should do the social distancing practice.
Moreover, they limit the passengers inside the vehicle. Upon knowing that the transaction of the passenger is not that valid, they don’t allow the passenger to pass the checkpoint and advise them to return home.
