In September, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will honor the nation’s cinematic icons as it marks the fourth annual Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM). The theme this year is “Tuloy ang Tradisyon ng Pelikulang Pilipino” (The Tradition of Filipino Film Continues).
A highlight will be a tribute to the late National Artist for Film, Eddie Romero, on his 100th birth anniversary. Romero’s groundbreaking films have left an indelible mark on the Philippine film industry, serving as a wellspring of inspiration for generations of filmmakers.
To celebrate Romero and other National Artists for Film, the FDCP has planned various events, including film screenings, exhibits, talks, and workshops. These activities aim to showcase the rich heritage of Filipino cinema and its lasting impact on society.
“We believe that by celebrating the legacies of our National Artists, we can inspire future generations of filmmakers to continue the tradition of producing high-quality Filipino films,” said FDCP Chairman and CEO Jose Javier Reyes.
Among the key events lined up for PFIM 2024 are:
Pamanang Pelikula
A retrospective of classic Filipino films by National Artists, which will be screened at various Cinematheque Centers nationwide.
Films for Peace
A series of screenings and discussions focusing on films that promote social justice, cultural dialogue, and conflict resolution.
Film Education Convention
A gathering of students and educators to explore the latest trends in film education and inspire the next generation of filmmakers.
Sine Kabataan Short Film Lab and Festival
A competition for young filmmakers to showcase their talents and receive mentorship from industry professionals.
The Philippine Film Industry Month will end with a gala on September 13th. National Artists for Film will be honored, and industry milestones celebrated. The FDCP’s ongoing support for the film industry is evident. PFIM 2024 reminds us of the importance of preserving our cinematic heritage.
