Filipina actress Lourdes Faberes, known for her work in The Sandman, will appear in Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender. On November 13, Netflix confirmed Faberes’ role as General Sung, a high-ranking military leader from the Earth Kingdom.
General Sung’s Role in the Story
General Sung, originally male in the animated series, leads the defense of Ba Sing Se’s Outer Wall, a vital stronghold. This gender-swapped portrayal adds depth to the character, highlighting Faberes’ range and versatility. Faberes shared her excitement on Instagram, saying, “Being part of an Asian-dominated cast fills my heart with pride.” She reflected on her career in the UK and Europe, where she often stood as the only East Asian on set.
Faberes also explained how deeply Avatar’s themes resonate with her. “This beautiful show explores courage, friendship, resilience, and the search for home, especially when the world feels chaotic,” she wrote. Her passion for the story adds a personal touch to her involvement in the series.
Exciting Additions to the Cast
Season two of Avatar: The Last Airbender expands the Earth Kingdom storyline with fresh characters. Chin Han will play Long Feng, the head of the Dai Li, while Justin Chien steps into the role of King Kuei, Ba Sing Se’s ruler. Other cast members include Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong (Toph’s mother), and Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder, an earthbending wrestler.
Fan-Favourite Toph Beifong Joins the Series
Netflix cast Miya Cech as Toph Beifong, the beloved earthbender and newest member of the “Gaang.” Her addition, along with Faberes’ role as General Sung, enriches the series’ Earth Kingdom narrative and sets the stage for a season packed with compelling stories.
With a diverse cast and meaningful themes, season two of Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to captivate fans. The introduction of new characters and deeper exploration of the Earth Kingdom will add fresh layers to the beloved story.
