After 42 years in the spotlight, Martin Nievera is proving that he’s far from finished. The “Concert King” is set to reign once more as he returns to the grand stage of the Araneta Coliseum for his upcoming concert, “The King 4Ever.”
Despite receiving the iconic title, Nievera humbly admits he never truly believed it. “If you thought you were king, we wouldn’t be having this conversation,” he quipped. However, his undeniable impact on the local concert scene is undeniable. From pioneering massive shows like “Martin’s Rage” to filling up the newly constructed Ultra basketball court, Nievera has consistently redefined the concert experience.
Martin Nievera concert comeback
It was Ogie Alcasid, a longtime friend and admirer, who convinced Nievera to return to the big stage. “Ogie and Cacai Velasquez were the masterminds behind this,” Nievera shared. “I was happy with my shows at The Theatre at Solaire, but they thought it was time for a grand comeback.”
What makes this concert even more special is the outpouring of support from fellow artists. Ogie, Regine Velasquez, Gary Valenciano, and even The CompanY have volunteered to be part of the show. “I didn’t even mention their names,” Nievera said. “But they wanted to show their support.”
The concert promises to be a spectacular affair, with Pops Fernandez joining Nievera on stage, and their son, Robin, flying in from the US. Adding to the excitement, Paolo Valenciano will helm the concert direction, while Frank Lloyd Mamaril takes on the TV direction.
While basking in the limelight for over four decades, Nievera remains remarkably grounded. “I don’t want to be at the top,” he confessed. “I prefer striving for it. It’s about constant growth and improvement.” Dismissing the idea of retirement, Nievera insists that a singer’s journey is endless. “There’s no such thing as a small show,” he declared.
Beyond the glitz and glamour, Nievera’s heart lies with his family. With his son Santino reaching adulthood, the singer is navigating the challenges and joys of parenthood. “My dreams are no longer just about me,” he shared. “I want to ensure my children have the best opportunities.”
