Ogie Diaz Takes Legal Action in Response to Bea Alonzo’s Lawsuit

Ogie Diaz is not pushing back against the cyber libel case filed by Kapuso actress Bea Alonzo. 

To rewind a bit, on May 2, Bea Alonzo filed a complaint against Ogie Diaz, showbiz insider Cristy Fermin, and their respective co-hosts. Bea claimed that the statements made on Ogie’s “Showbiz Update” and Cristy’s “Showbiz Now Na” were malicious and damaging. In response, Ogie Diaz recently filed his counter-affidavit at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, determined to defend his reputation and clarify his position.

Accompanied by his co-hosts Mama Loi and Mrena and his legal counsel, Atty. Regie Tongol,  Ogie Diaz addressed the accusations head-on. Atty. Tongol highlighted a significant point in their defense: Bea Alonzo’s complaint lacked clarity regarding which individuals made the defamatory statements. According to Ogie’s lawyer, this ambiguity unfairly places the blame solely on Ogie Diaz when the actual source of the statements remains unclear.

Moreover, Atty. Tongol argued that Bea’s camp had failed to provide clear and convincing evidence of ‘actual malice.’ This is a crucial element in libel cases, especially involving public figures like Bea Alonzo. On the other hand, the defense emphasized that Ogie Diaz did not recklessly disregard the truth or have any ill-motivation, challenging the foundation of the actress’s complaint.

Previously, Ogie Diaz expressed his respect for Bea Alonzo’s decision to pursue legal action, acknowledging her right to file a case. He also clarified that he harbors no personal anger towards her and wishes her happiness despite their current legal clash. This statement showed his willingness to maintain professionalism and civility amidst the controversy.

As of now, Bea Alonzo’s camp has not released a statement regarding Ogie Diaz’s counter affidavit. Additionally, there has been no update on Cristy Fermin’s response to the lawsuit. The showbiz world eagerly awaits the next moves from both sides in this high-profile legal showdown.
