The excitement for the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is building, especially with the release of the first images from Piolo Pascual and Vic Sotto’s highly anticipated collaboration, The Kingdom.
The newly revealed stills showcase the two actors in contrasting but equally fascinating roles. Vic Sotto, widely known for his comedic talent, sits on a wicker chair, exuding a regal presence. His suit features a pin badge, and a tribal tattoo on his left-hand hints at a layered, intriguing character.
On the other hand, Piolo Pascual, usually associated with romantic leads, adopts a more rugged look. In the images, he dresses casually and operates a farming machine in a rice paddy. His sun-kissed face reflects determination and hints at a life of struggle.
This striking contrast between their characters sets the stage for a compelling narrative. The Kingdom presents a historical drama that imagines a fantastical realm where the Philippines never faced colonization. It explores the complexities of monarchy in this unique setting, offering viewers a fresh and imaginative story.
Ambitious Vision Behind the Film
Jane Bases, President and CEO of MQuest Ventures, expressed the film’s ambitious goals. “We’re building an entire world,” she said. “The plot is challenging because it explores a monarchy in a version of the Philippines that has never been colonized.”
The collaboration between Vic Sotto’s MZet Television Productions Inc. and APT Entertainment highlights the power of Philippine cinema. With The Kingdom chosen as one of the 10 official entries in the 50th MMFF, audiences can expect a cinematic experience that balances grandeur and intimacy.
Piolo Pascual also shared his excitement about working with the legendary Vic Sotto. “I grew up as a Vic Sotto fan,” he said. “At first, I was nervous, but you have to stand your ground. It’s fun! I even told my mom, ‘Mom, I’m acting with Boss Vic.’ It’s heartwarming to reach a point where you get to act alongside an icon.”
Fans of both actors are in for a treat with The Kingdom. The movie promises to offer a captivating storyline, stunning visuals, and unforgettable performances. As the MMFF draws closer, anticipation continues to grow for what could be one of the festival’s standout films.
