Raining in Manila Takes Center Stage at the 37th Awit Awards

Lola Amour’s hit song, “Raining in Manila”, won Record of the Year at the 37th Awit Awards, held on December 4 at the Music Museum in San Juan. The Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) celebrated its massive popularity and cultural impact, also awarding it Song of the Year and Best Pop Recording of the Year.

A Song That Resonates

With lively brass sections and clever lyrics, “Raining in Manila” transformed the city’s rainy-day struggles into a joyous anthem. The song became a viral hit and propelled Lola Amour into mainstream fame. Their versatility shone even further with their collaboration with comedian Michael V on “Waiting Here Sa Pila”, which won Best Novelty Recording.

Unique Salonga took home Album of the Year for his third solo album, Daisy. Known for introspective music, Unique embraced a lighter, nostalgic tone in this release, showcasing his growth as an artist.

P-pop sensation SB19 claimed Best Performance by a Group and Best Dance/Electronic Recording for “Gento”. These awards reinforced their dominance in modern Filipino music. Joey G earned Best Solo Performance for “Letting Go”, and Lyka Estrella was named Best New Solo Artist for her song “Hawak Mo”.

Diverse Genres Celebrated

The awards also highlighted artists from various genres:

  • Gloc-9 and Gary Valenciano for their collaboration “Walang Pumapalakpak”
  • Juan Karlos for his ballad “Tapusin Na Natin ’To”
  • Shanti Dope for “Bad Type” in the Rap/Hip-Hop category

Winners in other genres included SB19 (Dance), Debonair District (Jazz), and Chocolate Factory (World Music).

Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Buddy de Vera and the late Danny Olivares for their remarkable contributions to the Philippine music industry.
