Regal Entertainment’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry for 2024, My Future You, marks a poignant milestone for the studio. Featuring the debut of the Seth Fedelin and Francine Diaz loveteam, the film is among the last projects approved by Regal matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde before her passing in August.
Roselle Monteverde, Regal’s CEO, reflected on this emotional moment as the team prepared for the film’s release. She shared that the movie includes a heartfelt tribute to both her parents, Mother Lily and Father Remy Monteverde, who passed away within a week of each other earlier this year.
“In the final part of the movie, there’s something that made me cry so much when I first saw it,” Roselle said, describing how the tribute brought back memories of her parents’ profound influence on her life and career.
Mother Lily was known for her hands-on approach to producing films and supporting the MMFF. “My mom would always call in the morning to remind me about people—not the logistics. She had this personal touch, always thinking of others,” Roselle recounted.
Roselle admitted she doesn’t feel the need to match her mother’s legacy, calling her a true icon in Philippine cinema. Instead, she focuses on the values her mother instilled in her—passion, sincerity, and hard work. She also emphasized passing these lessons to her son Keith, Regal’s current Executive Vice President.
Directed by Crisanto Aquino, My Future You combines romance and family themes. Its plot follows Karen (Diaz) and Lex (Fedelin), whose connection across two timelines leads them to rewrite their futures. Roselle praised the young stars’ genuine charm and commitment to the film.
Despite challenges with limited cinema availability, Regal remains optimistic. Roselle revealed plans for more projects in 2025, including a documentary and a film about Mother Lily’s life. As chair of the producers’ guild, she’s also working toward introducing Philippine cinema to global audiences.
For Roselle, these efforts go beyond personal milestones. “What’s important is helping the industry,” she said, highlighting recent initiatives like the Konsyerto sa Palasyo, which showcased the significance of Philippine cinema.
With My Future You, Roselle continues to honor her parents’ legacy, celebrating their vision while paving the way for new stories.
