Tom Rodriguez recently revealed an exciting milestone—he’s now a father to a four-month-old baby boy named Korben. In an interview with GMA Integrated News’ Nelson Canlas, he shared his journey into fatherhood and its challenges. Rodriguez also discussed the inspiration his son brings and the special meaning behind his unique name.
Embracing Fatherhood with Joy and Responsibility
Fatherhood has brought a newfound sense of purpose to Rodriguez’s life. “I feel great. He’s my greatest source of inspiration,” he said, radiating pride. While he initially kept this chapter of his life private, Rodriguez is now excited to share the news publicly. “I never hid naman talaga eh; I don’t want to do that,” he explained, emphasizing his desire to balance privacy with openness.
The Meaning Behind the Name Korben
Rodriguez intentionally chose the name “Korben,” explaining it as an anagram of “broken,” symbolizing healing and transformation. He connected this meaning to a biblical reference to David’s covenant with the Lord—a story of redemption and renewal. “Korben represents bringing together something once broken,” Rodriguez said, adding a spiritual depth to his joy as a father.
The arrival of Korben has profoundly influenced Rodriguez’s career. After living in the U.S. for some time, he decided to return to the Philippines to reignite his acting career. He will play a lead role in Joel Lamangan’s upcoming movie, Huwag Mo Kong Iwan. Reflecting on his decision, Rodriguez admitted that while he missed acting, he was less enthusiastic about the challenges of the entertainment industry. However, the desire to set a positive example for his son motivated him to move forward. “I wanted to show him that I can finish things I start and set a good example because everything I do now is for him,” he said.
