Dominic Roque Initiates Cyber Libel Lawsuit Against Journalist Cristy Fermin

Another well-known actor is added to the list of celebrities who took legal action against journalist Cristy Fermin. Dominic Roque has decided to file a cyber libel case against Cristy Fermin after the latter made “malicious statements and innuendos” on her YouTube channel. He officially filed the complaint with the Office of the City Prosecutor of Pasig City, aiming to hold Fermin accountable for her remarks.

Fermin uses her YouTube channel, “Showbiz Now Na,” to share stories and opinions about celebrities. This platform has become a hotspot for controversy, often leading to legal battles as the celebs she mentioned in her videos respond to her claims.

Aside from Dominic Roque, several celebrities have also come forward with similar complaints against Cristy Fermin over the past months, highlighting a pattern of disputes centered around her provocative statements. In March, Esther Lahbati filed a cyber libel complaint against Fermin. This action coincided with the highly publicized split between Sarah Lahbati and Richard Gutierrez.

Last May, Kapuso actress Bea Alonzo also filed a cyber libel case against Fermin. Alonzo accused Fermin of spreading false and damaging information about her, further complicating the journalist’s legal troubles. Shortly after Alonzo’s complaint, Sharon Cuneta and Kiko Pangilinan also filed a cyber libel case against Fermin. 

This legal action follows a significant period in Roque’s life. Earlier this year, Dominique Roque and Bea Alonzo called off their wedding plans, which were initially set for 2023. This case may set important precedents for how public figures can address defamatory statements in the digital age.
