K-pop superstars ITZY just sent shockwaves through the local music scene with a cover of BINI’s megahit, “Pantropiko.” The quartet dropped the surprise performance during their “Born To Be” concert, leaving fans screaming and shaking.
BINI’s loyal following, the Blooms, absolutely lost it. Imagine their fave P-pop group getting a major shoutout from their K-pop idols? Mind blown. Mikha from BINI, a certified ITZY stan, summed up the whole fandom’s feelings with a simple, ecstatic tweet: “BEHHHHHHHH GOOOOOO!”
ITZY didn’t stop there. They cranked up the hype by sharing a video of their “Pantropiko” slayage on Instagram. With a cheeky caption, they teased their fans, “Sa islang pantropiko,” and tagged it “What Midzy want 2024.” It’s like they’re saying, “We hear you, fans, and we delivered!”
BINI’s Colet, Sheena, and Gwen couldn’t contain their excitement either. They reposted the cover like, “Whaaatttttt?!” and “Is this real life?” We’re pretty sure their jaws were on the floor.
ITZY’s “Pantropiko” cover is just the latest in a string of K-pop love for Filipino music. Mamamoo’s Solar rocked the track earlier this year, and Red Velvet’s Irene showed off her moves to it during a fan call. Plus, boy group RIIZE and aespa’s Ningning danced to BINI’s “Salamin, Salamin.” It’s like, K-pop is officially obsessed with P-pop!
This wave of K-pop love is putting Filipino music on the global map. We’re talking major props for our local artists and a brighter future for the P-pop scene. Keep it up, K-pop. We’re loving this crossover.
